The second day of action in London at the World Series of Poker Europesaw over 300 hopefuls jump into the fray for Day 1b of the £1,000 no-limit hold'em event. While the official chip counts are not yet in, Chris Ferguson joins Nicholas Levi, Stephane Hansen, and Fabien Dunlop among the chip leaders going into Day 2. To celebrate Ferguson quickly turned all the water into wine then quickly changed it to Natural Light Beer due to his endorsment clause. Ok maybe not but he is doing well keep it up Chris! After several grueling days of competition, and nearly 6,500 eliminations, the Main Event of the 2009 World Series of Poker is finally down to its eagerly anticipated November 9. Though several top name pros were able to make deep runs, including former champs Peter Eastgate and Joe Hachem, in addition to household names such as Antonio Esfandiari, the only well-known left is the one considered by many to be the best of them all. That distinction belongs to none other than the great Phil Ivey, poker pro at Full Tilt Poker. After winning 2 bracelets in earlier events this year, Ivey was able to thrive in the massive main event field and goes to the final table alive and kicking, albeit with the 3rd fewest chips at the table, and nearly $50 Million behind the chip leader, Darvin Moon. However, no one is ready to count out the poker icon just yet.
Page 6 of the NY Times reported that Anna Kournikova got into a fight Saturday night in Las Vegas after an unidentified woman threw a drink at the tennis ace. Kournikova and her pals were partying at Lavo after attending the Hardbat Classic table tennis tournament when a woman at the next table "threw a drink at Anna. She felt Anna was invading her space,". Kournikova "sprung into action" and starting screaming at the woman and shoving her. "It was a big fight," the spy said. The woman was kicked out only after leaving Kournikova with some vicious scratch marks on her neck.
The screenwriters of the cult classic 'Rounders', Brian Koppelman and David Levien have teamed up for a second poker movie: This one focusing on the world of online poker. Numerous sources report the plot will revolve around the online casino industry in Costa Rica.JUNE 23rd 2009

Slade named the show and then went on to tell a story involving a lady at a bus stop that's so disgusting you have to listen to it. We also touched breifly on the WSOP 2009 and gave some instant updates. That's right we actually talked about poker! We talked twitter and best of all I'm in charge of the sound effects again. At long last we have our regular intro back! If you listen to only one show this year (because we only do 1 show) this is the episode you need to hear. We're here, Slade's queer, get used to it!
Jeffery Pollack the commisionare of the WSOP had this quote during a recent interview. "We would love to see a woman win the main event ... unless that woman happens to be Joan Rivers," Pollack said this in response to the toung lashing 110 comedian Joan Rivers dished out to Amy Duke on "The Celebrity Apprentice" after her daughter Melissa was fired. Joan called Duke a "Nazi" and said all poker players were "beyond white trash" in an episode of the NBC show that aired Sunday. Who is Joan River's calling white trash? That's like Slade calling someone a bum! Relax old lady didn't you die back in the 80's? Oh wait that was just your carreer!. Here's the article

Is poker a game of skill or luck? For regular players that's a no-brainer, but showing that skill wins out has proven surprisingly difficult for mathematicians. Now two studies that tapped the vast amounts of data available from online casinos have provided some of the best evidence yet that poker is skill-based. Many hope that the results will help to roll back laws and court decisions that consider poker gambling, and therefore illegal in certain contexts. (More)
Word first hit the poker world late Monday night that Casey Reese, the 20-year-old son of poker legend Chip Reese, had passed away as the result of a drug overdose. Phil Hellmuth was the first to let the poker community know via his Twitter account. The sad news was confirmed today by Daniel Negreanu on the Full Contact Poker forums:A hand made famous by the movie "Rounders" Johnny Chan lets Eric Sidel dig his own grave by checking his made hand. You don't mess with the Chan baby!

But the difference between the two pieces of legislation - one in the House and one in the Senate - may be the difference between the life and death of poker in the state. The Florida House of Representatives is currently examining a proposal that would dramatically reduce the amount of poker that is played in the state. The legislation moving through the House looks to rid many casinos of card games, as well as blackjack and baccarat, entirely, which would affect resorts like the Hard Rock Resort & Hotel and six other Seminole-run casinos, as they would only be allowed to offer slot machine action for their customers. Pro-Poker Legislation Will Be Introduced in Coming Weeks.
On March 1st, the second season of “The Celebrity Apprentice” will debut on NBC. Among the 16 contestants vying for prize money for charity is poker pro Annie Duke, a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner and one of the most successful female poker players in the history of the game. Duke will be playing for Refugees International, a sister charity to Ante Up for Africa, which she founded along with Don Cheadle and Norman Epstein. MORE

Great to be back! Sometimes I forget how much fun doing this show is. It's truly a labor of love. I missed all you guys and yes I missed Slade too. (In a purely non-sexual way). Gareth came on the show and was great. Sounded pretty good for 6am his time. Mark stop by and let us know that he turned his $1.10 Poker Donkey money into over $100.00 on Poker stars.
